Who hasn't ever dreamed of living in a villa in the
Caribbean? On some islands is an unattainable dream for
the prices are sky high, but in the French Antilles,
Guadeloupe, you can rent a villa at a reasonable price.
You have a wide choice in the more touristic areas of
St. Francois and Ste Anne, on Grande-Terre, while
Basse-Terre, and especially on the islands of Les
Saintes, Marie Galante and Desirade, the supply of
holiday villas is more limited.
Normally holiday villas in Guadeloupe have a swimming
pool nestled amidst tropical gardens. The villas are
mainly built of wood and typically enjoy privileged
positions, close to the sea and the beaches or in
positions overlooking the sea. The rooms are normally
equipped with air conditioning and the kitchen is
equipped with a dishwasher, the most luxurious villas
offer direct access to the sea, wi-fi, Jacuzzi, etc
Prices can vary greatly, but on average in the high
season, excluding the Christmas-New Year period, a villa
with swimming pool with 2 / 3 bedrooms, costs around 900
Euros a week. For stand alone villas at a 5 star level,
expect to pay 4000 euro a week. For those holidaying in

|Hotels in Guadeloupe
For the most part concentrated on the west coast of
Grande-Terre, mainly between Gosier and Ste Anne and St.
François, hotels in Guadeloupe often belong to major
hotel chains such as Accor, Meridien, Group Leader, and
the group HCM Hotels Karibea
Usually a 3 or 4 star hotels, they offer a wide choice
of styles, from modern 'American' style hotels, to
quaint who have been built around old habitations.
On the islands around mainland Guadeloupe, your choice
will be between smaller, often family run types. They
are slightly more expensive than hotels on mainland
If you choose to stay in one of hotels around Gosier,
remember that they usually have magnificent sea views,
but not always access to the beach.
Gosier how-ever is ideal for those seeking a lively
nightlife, the hotels in this area have attracted many
restaurants, nightclubs, bars and the casino.
apartments in Guadeloupe
The résidence hôtelière formula is a typically
French option and one which you can not find anywhere
else in the Caribbean, apart from the French Antilles.
An ideal choice for those who want to be independent and
save some money too. Residences offer hotel like
accommodation, but with out the hotel services such as,
restaurant-bar and daily cleaning. The typical types of
accommodation you will find is small studios or
apartments with veranda or terraces, furnished and
equipped with a kitchen. This makes you completely
autonomous for your meals. Often the structure of the
residence is made up of adjoining cottages or bungalows.
Unfortunately not many establishments have standard 1.60
beds and most still adopt a 'French' standard of 140cm.
One point that we have noted is that many residences in
Guadeloupe offer breakfast too and give you the choice
between the hotel or a simple residence formula. Prices
per week range between 350 Euros for two people in low
season to 450 Euros in high season.
Length of stay and rentals
Those intending to tour the island staying in more than one
place, often notice many rentals have a 4 day min rental period,
do not be disheartened throughout Guadeloupe, even far from the
main touristic points, you will find the "chez l'habitant" (At
the owners house,) or the "Gites", (Close by to the owner,)
You can also find the "chambre d'hôte" option. These are small
family-run hotels that you can compare to our 'lodge/pub'
option, but of course in Caribbean style. Prices vary between 35
Euros and 70 Euros a night for two people.
Transfer from/to the airport
There is a taxi service at the airport, but it is strongly
advised to hire a car!
When booking your hotel/villa/bungalow etc, you may want to ask
if they have a free transfer service. If not reserve a hire car
Most agents will deliver the car to the airport that way you'll
be independent straight away.
